After a successful trial of the SpeedGauge Safety Center®, Mustang Expediting was so impressed with the promising early results, they had to tell us about it. Here’s their story:
Established in 1982 and based in Aston, Pennsylvania, Mustang Expediting is a regional, full-service hazmat carrier providing transportation, warehousing and logistics.
According to Mustang CEO John Sanchez, it was critical that Mustang Expediting find a way to improve driver performance, lower costs, and obtain more affordable insurance rates.

In March 2024, after some guidance from the company’s risk consultant, Alan Cantor of Risk Advisory Services LLC, and with the aid of Mustang Expediting’s commercial auto insurance agents Lloyd and Glenn Humphrey at Insurance Office of America, John reached out to SpeedGauge to explore driving risk reduction options.
SpeedGauge’s Safety Team enrolled Mustang in the SpeedGauge GaugeMyFleetTM (“GMF”) program, a free insurance risk analysis service. GMF uses a fleet’s existing telematics system to create a confidential insurance risk profile before sharing any data with an insurance company.
The GMF program also includes a free trial of the SpeedGauge Safety Center®, an innovative driver behavior management and coaching service that is compatible with most fleet telematics and ELD solutions in North America. Following brief best practices training, the Mustang driver safety management team was soon using driving data to understand speeding incidents and trends, and identify which drivers needed coaching.
In addition to the Safety Center, a manager’s tool for implementing driving performance improvements, Mustang tapped the resources of the SpeedGauge Driver CenterTM, which focuses on delivering speeding incident and trend alerts directly to drivers via a mobile app. The Driver Center enables drivers to see what their managers see, and to monitor their own speeding behavior on their mobile devices. This makes it easier for managers to interact with drivers, and helps drivers to maintain a higher level of accountability. Within just a few weeks the company witnessed significant improvement in both driver and overall fleet safety scores.
John Sanchez reported, “In reviewing our speeding frequency data (shown below), it’s evident that we started from a baseline consistent with median industry performance. However, SpeedGauge is helping us improve rapidly, and our results will soon position us at better than 75% of our peers.”
According to John, by the end of the second month with SpeedGauge, the company witnessed an impressive 33% decline in speeding incidents:

He was so impressed with his company’s results that he shared insights about Mustang’s driving performance improvements at the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association’s (PMTA) Philadelphia chapter meeting.
Mustang has since launched the Safety Center and Driver Center programs across its entire organization.
John stated, “Our goal here at Mustang is for our drivers to minimize speeding and operate within the top 5% of the industry, thereby enhancing road safety for both the public and our team.”
He concluded, “We are hopeful that our results will translate into lower repair costs and fuel expenses, and allow us to demonstrate reduced risk so that we can lower our insurance premiums. We also look forward to improving our reputation with stakeholders in the public sector, as well as within our client base.”
