Shaw Tracking Provides Enhanced Speed Data for Increased Safety

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO July 13, 2010 - Shaw Tracking, a Shaw Communications Company (TSX: SJR.B and NYSE:SJR), the leader in mobile communications for the Canadian Transportation industry, today announced SpeedGauge and Shaw Tracking have entered into a strategic alliance and patent license that gives customers integrated technology allowing carriers to schedule reports that rate and rank drivers and identify speed limit violations.

Excessive speed is a major factor in 30% of fatal truck accidents and is a leading indicator of other types of poor driver behavior including poor fuel economy and vehicle maintenance costs. As fleets prepare for the implementation of Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 (CSA 2010), monitoring and managing speed is an integral part of any safety and compliance program.

SpeedGauge is a simple, straight forward patented driver behavior safety training tool that uses street-level speed limit analysis to identify high-risk driving behavior. The system uses GPS data (location and speed) to identify high risk driving behavior. Specifically, SpeedGauge helps fleet managers identify drivers that habitually drive at excessive speeds on different types of roads.

  • Find drivers that speed through residential neighborhoods
  • Rank drivers tendency to exceed interstate speed limits
  • Measure changes in driver behavior over time
  • Compare drivers performance to the average for the entire fleet
  • SpeedGauge services are available in both English and French

"Our shared vision of providing superior fleet performance information to fleet management will make for a great partnership with Shaw Tracking," said Bob Red, Vice President, SpeedGauge. "Safety and driver behavior are critical factors today and we look forward to working with Shaw Tracking to bring our solutions to market".

"The changes that we have seen in our industry are paramount, the roads are more congested, customers are more demanding and the regulatory issues that are being driven into our industry are increasing every year. Shaw Tracking continues to offer solutions that provide our customers with the data they need to make smart business decisions. We continue to leverage business with innovation," said Mike Ham, Vice President, Shaw Tracking.
